Canada Workers Benefit Payment Dates 2026
The Canada Workers Benefit payment dates for 2026 are January 12, July 10, and October 9, 2026. The next payment comes in January 2027. These dates are for the Advanced Canada Workers Benefit (ACWB), which pays up to half of your yearly CWB before tax season. You get the other half as a refundable credit when you file your return. For the current cycle, a single worker can get up to $1,633 in total and a family up to $2,813, based on the 2025 tax return. The CRA pays automatically, so you don’t need to apply separately. What keeps every payment on schedule is filing your return on time.
Canada Workers Benefit Payment Dates 2026 Schedule
The CRA pays the ACWB three times a year, in January, July, and October. The January 12, 2026 payment was the last one from the old cycle, which used your 2024 tax return. So the amount you got in January depended on your income from two years earlier. Your income for 2025 had no effect on that payment.
The July 10, 2026 payment started a new cycle based on your 2025 tax return. The October 9, 2026 payment belongs to this same cycle, and so does the January 2027 payment. The CRA usually posts the exact January date on its benefit payment dates page late in the year. All three payments in this cycle are the same size, unless the CRA reassesses your return.
If your money doesn’t arrive, the CRA asks you to wait 10 working days after the scheduled date before you call. Most delays come from old banking details or a change of address. You can check your payment status any time in CRA My Account. You can also see your upcoming payment amounts under the Benefits and Credits tab there.
How Much Each ACWB Payment Is Worth in 2026?
Your payment amount depends on your 2025 working income, your adjusted net income, and your family status.
1. Basic Amount for Singles and Families
For the 2025 tax year, the most a single person can get from the CWB is $1,633. For a family, it is $2,813. The advance covers 50 percent of that, split into three equal payments across July, October, and January. Workers with lower incomes that still qualify get a smaller amount that is worked out from their earnings.
That comes to about $272 per payment for a single person and about $468 per payment for a family. The remaining half is added to your return as a refundable credit when you file your 2026 taxes next spring. You get that credit even if you owe no income tax.
2. Disability Supplement
If you have an approved Disability Tax Credit through Form T2201, you can also get a disability supplement of up to $843. Couples get this supplement too, and the maximum is the same $843. A medical practitioner has to certify Form T2201 before the CRA will approve your credit.
Half of the supplement is also paid in advance, which adds about $140 on each of the Canada Workers Benefit payment dates. You don’t need to apply for it. The CRA adds it automatically once your Disability Tax Credit is approved on your file. It is paid together with your basic amount, not as a separate deposit.
Canada Workers Benefit 2026 Amounts Compared
This table shows the yearly maximums, advance payments, and income limits side by side.
| Component (2025 Tax Year) | Yearly Maximum | Per Advance Payment | Reduction Starts | Benefit Ends |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single basic amount | $1,633 | $272 | $26,855 | $37,742 |
| Family basic amount | $2,813 | $468 | $30,639 | $49,393 |
| Disability supplement (single) | $843 | $140 | $37,740 | $43,360 |
The benefit gets smaller once your adjusted net income goes above the reduction threshold. It stops completely at the income shown in the last column. A single worker earning $32,000 would still qualify, but for less than the full amount. The CRA reduces the benefit by 15 cents for every dollar of income above the threshold.
Families use the combined net income of both spouses. So if one partner’s income rises, the family payment can drop even if the other partner earns the same as last year. Only one spouse can claim the family amount, so decide in advance who will claim it. The CRA says Alberta, Quebec, and Nunavut have their own CWB amounts, because those provinces have adjusted the benefit. If you live in Calgary, check your exact numbers in CRA My Account before you budget around them. Your notice of assessment also shows the CWB amount the CRA used to set up your advance.
Who Qualifies for the Canada Workers Benefit?
The CWB is a refundable tax credit for people who work and earn a low income. You qualify if you lived in Canada all year and were at least 19 on December 31. You also qualify if you were younger but lived with a spouse, a common law partner, or your child. You need at least $3,000 of working income, which includes employment income and net self employment income. Your employer reports your pay on a T4 slip, and the CRA uses that slip to check your working income.
Gig workers and sole proprietors often qualify for this benefit. Claiming the right business expenses lowers your net income and can raise your CWB. Our guide on Tax Deductions for Small Businesses explains which costs you can claim. Delivery drivers and rideshare workers report this income on Form T2125.
You can’t claim the CWB if you were a full time student for more than 13 weeks without an eligible dependant, or if you were in prison for 90 days or more. Employment Insurance doesn’t count as working income, so read How Much Employment Insurance in Canada if you were laid off during the year. EI benefits still count toward your adjusted net income, so they can reduce your CWB.
How to Receive Every ACWB Payment on Time?
You don’t need to apply for the advance, but a few simple steps decide how much you get and when.
1. File Your Return Before the Deadline
The CRA uses your assessed tax return to set up your advance payments. File your 2025 return by April 30, 2026 and complete Schedule 6 (line 45300), and your payments will start in July. If you file online through NETFILE, your return is usually assessed within two weeks.
If the CRA assesses your return late, you miss the payments that have already gone out. The rest of your CWB then comes as a lump sum when you file your next return. Self employed people have until June 15 to file, but any balance owing is still due April 30. The CRA charges interest on any balance that is still unpaid after that date.
2. Keep Your CRA Details Current
Direct deposit gets your money to you days before a mailed cheque. Update your address, banking details, and marital status in CRA My Account, because a change in family status changes which income limits apply to you. You have to tell the CRA about a marriage or separation by the end of the month after the month it happened.
Our team in Calgary can help with Personal Tax Returns in Calgary, Bookkeeping in Calgary, and Calgary Accounting Services so you stay compliant, claim every credit you are owed, and never miss a deadline. Clean records make every benefit claim faster. They also make it much easier to answer a CRA review letter.
3. Reconcile Your RC210 Slip
Every February, the CRA sends an RC210 slip that shows the advance payments you received. You report that amount on line 41500 of your tax return so the CRA can compare it with your final CWB. Most tax software fills in this amount for you when you use the Auto fill my return service.
If your 2026 income ends up higher than your 2025 income, you may have been paid too much in advance. You pay the extra back through your return, so save your RC210 slip with your other tax slips. If your income dropped, you get the difference added to your refund.
Planning Your ACWB Payments Around Calgary Bills
Calgary property tax is due at the end of June, and the July 10 payment comes after that date. If you own a home, our blog on Calgary Property Tax Payment explains the monthly TIPP plan, which spreads the cost across the year. Monthly payments are easier to fit around your ACWB payments than one large payment in June.
If your property assessment looks too high, read How to Appeal Your Calgary Property Tax Assessment before the review window closes. You can also use the Calgary property tax lookup to compare your home’s value with similar homes nearby. A successful appeal lowers your tax bill and leaves more of your ACWB money for other costs.
Families should also know about the child care expenses in Calgary, since daycare deductions lower your net income and can increase your CWB. You claim these costs on Form T778, and usually the spouse with the lower income makes the claim. Together, these savings can make a real difference to a low income household budget.
